Communities across Moira Shire will soon see benefits from a busy period of construction activity across the region, with significant progress occurring on a number of major projects

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson said there was a real sense of momentum, with several projects completed early or nearing completion despite challenges with recent weather.

“It’s really encouraging to see such strong progress right across the Shire, with a mix of major projects and upgrades to infrastructure,” Dr Emonson said.

“From one of our largest projects in recent years with the new Yarrawonga library, to resurfacing rural roads to make them safer, to constructing Moira’s first off-leash dog park, we are seeing a number of projects completed or taking significant steps forward in construction.

“These projects not only improve the places we live, but they also show that Council is delivering on long-awaited projects, including improvements and upgrades that the community has told us are important for them.”

Cobram Off-leash Dog Park

Construction of Moira Shire’s first Off-leash Dog Park at Colgan Park in Cobram is nearing completion. Works recently completed include the installation of dog agility equipment and a shelter and park seats for dog owners, as well as works beginning on the double gated entry/exit area. Remaining works includes construction of a path to the shelter, river sand area for the dogs, a water drinking fountain with dog bowl, bins and signage. The project has been jointly funded by Moira Shire Council and the Victorian Government’s Regional Development Victoria Living Local Regional Grant Program. Construction works are expected to be completed in the next fortnight, with an official opening planned for August – keep an eye on Council’s website and Facebook page for more information.

Five Ways roundabout, Yarrawonga

The new roundabout at the intersection of South Road, Gilmore Street, Woods Road, Cahills Road, and Old Wilby Road in Yarrawonga is now open to traffic. All road surfaces, signage, lighting, and line marking have been completed.

Numurkah Northern Levee

Works on the first section of the levee near the Station Street wetlands are now complete, and this section of the walking track has been reopened. Works are also nearing completion on the Kinnaird’s Road section of the earthen levee. Once this stage is finished, construction will soon begin on the concrete levee structure within the same area.

Harcourt Street, Nathalia

Upgrade works along Nathalia’s Harcourt Street were completed in early June. The $840,000 project involved constructing new road pavement and kerb and channel works, as well as improving drainage and installing a new footpath. Works were completed just before the June long weekend, and the road has been reopened to traffic.

Wunghnu Road, Invergordon

Construction for upgrades to Wunghnu Road between Labuan Road and Katamatite-Shepparton Road was completed in mid-June, two weeks ahead of schedule. The project widened and sealed a 3.9km section of the road, along with adding improved line markings and intersection signage to enhance visibility and reduce the risk of accidents. Drainage improvements along the roadside were also carried out as part of the project. Drivers are being reminded to pay attention to updated signage following construction works.

Yarrawonga Library

The superstructure of the library has now been completed, including all of the roofing construction. Works are now moving inside the building to progress the internal fit out over the next couple of months, including building services. Construction remains on track for completion in early 2026.
