Administrator

On 28 October 2022, a Commission of Inquiry into Moira Shire Council was appointed under section 200 of the Local Government Act 2020.

The Commission of Inquiry provided its report to the Minister for Local Government, Hon Melissa Horne MP, Minister and the report was tabled in Parliament on 7 March 2023. The Minister has accepted the Commission’s recommendation to dismiss the Council and appoint an interim Administrator.

Interim Administrator

On 9 March 2023, John Tanner AM was appointed as interim administrator for the Council for a period of ninety (90) days or until such time as a panel of administrators is appointed for the Council, whichever occurs earlier.

The terms and conditions of the appointment will be fixed by the Minister for Local Government in accordance with section 7(e) of the Local Government (Moira Shire Council) Act 2023. 

What is the administrators role?

The Administrator will perform all the functions, powers and duties of a Mayor and a Councillor as set out in the Local Government Act 2020, including representing the interests of the Moira Shire community.
