Wandering Pets

Dog owners are required to confine their dogs to their property.

A dog of any size, breed or temperament can become aggressive when defending its territory, when it is scared, or when it is in an unknown situation. A dog’s behaviour can be very different when its owner is not with them.

Confining your dog to your property ensures:

  • Your dog will be safe from traffic injuries
  • Your dog will not become involved in fights with other dogs
  • Prevention of your dog from wandering and becoming lost
  • Prevention of dog attacks, as your dog will be safe in its backyard
  • Prevention of legal action from being commenced as it is a legal requirement to confine your dog to your property
  • Prevention of costly legal and veterinary bills

Adequate fencing for pets

Council would like to encourage pet owners to check their yard fencing to ensure that their pets do not escape and cause a nuisance in their neighbourhood.

To avoid your animal from being impounded, involved in a traffic incident or fighting with another animal, ensure they have a secured home and check your property fences, gate openings or animal enclosures are in good working order.

Pets enjoy longer and healthier lives when living in a safe and enriching environment.
