Electronic waste

What is e-waste?

From your phone to your fridge, your laptop to your electric lawnmower, it covers a whole range of items from work, home and even the garden shed, including:

  • Large and small household appliances (fridges, irons, kettles, hair dryers)
  • IT, telecommunication and TV equipment (computers and their accessories, tablets, mobile phones, TV’s)
  • Lighting (LEDs, fluorescent lamps)
  • Electrical and electronic tools (drills, lawnmowers)
  • Toys, leisure and sport equipment (race cars, hand-held video games, musical equipment)
  • Other e-waste (medical devices, thermostats)

Where can we take it?

E-waste is only accepted at the following Resource Recovery Centres. Charges apply and will be determined by the site operator, depending on the items:

  • Cobram Resource Recovery Centre
  • Nathalia Resource Recovery Centre
  • Numurkah Resource Recovery Centre
  • Yarrawonga Resource Recovery Centre

PLEASE NOTE: The Operator is unable to assist with unloading of items brought to the Resource Recovery Centres.

These items are then transported to Melbourne to be recycled.

Electronic and electrical waste:

  • is growing up to three times faster than general municipal waste
  • contains hazardous materials like cadmium, lead and mercury that can harm the environment – and us
  • contains valuable materials like gold, silver and copper which can be recovered in the recycling process and reused
  • up to 90% of your phones, TVs and computers can be recycled – almost every part of your old electronics can be remade into something new

For all these reasons, it’s important that all our electronic and electrical waste is managed safely and effectively.

Take your e-waste to a better place
