We do our best to deal with the waste generated from our community. In 2014-15, 60 million tonnes of waste was created from Australian's. There is only so long we can handle such large amounts of waste. We all need to become more aware of waste and what we can do to reduce it.

Here are some ways that we are reducing waste

  • Our partnership with Responsible Cafes has enabled us to encourage businesses to join up by providing an incentive for customers who BYO cup. Find out where you can get your discounted coffee when you take your own cup.
  • Using recycled products on our roads - Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is commonly used in our road surfacing. As is recycled crushed concrete.
  • Event recycling trailer - we hire out a mobile trailer offering up to 15 bins to assist community groups with event waste management.
  • Green waste - from transfer stations is mulched and made available to the public biannually
  • Recycled park furniture - most of our park benches are made from recycled plastic bags.
  • Composting our gardens - created from kerbside organic waste collection is used on all our parks and gardens.
