Good evening everyone,

I would like to begin with our Welcome to Country.

We, the Moira Shire Council, would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land upon which we meet and pay our respects to their Elders both past and present.

Volunteer Week is an opportunity to provide our many volunteers with a well-deserved pat on the back.

On behalf of Moira Shire Council I extend a sincere thank you to the many people who generously volunteer their time and effort for the betterment of their communities.

I commend you on your generosity and clear commitment to making a difference; your contributions are invaluable.

Volunteers contribute to the community in many ways.

In Moira Shire we have 33 Section 86 Committees of Management, who mange our community facilities and open spaces, with nearly 400 volunteers on those committees alone.

Then there are the literally hundreds of Meals on Wheels volunteers, our L2P learner driver volunteers, our Visitor Information Centre volunteers and the countless other ways members of our community generously volunteer to make our shire the best place it can be.

In closing, I would once again like to thank each of the shire's wonderful volunteers for their willingness to give up their time, impart their knowledge and share their skills.

We are lucky to have so many community minded people prepared to volunteer their time.
