We are seeking your feedback on the review of our Major Towns Strategy which will help provide strategic direction and identify major growth areas including housing, jobs and investment opportunities by setting the ground rules for land use into the future.

Mayor Libro Mustica said the strategies for each of our four major towns – Cobram, Nathalia, Numurkah and Yarrawonga – had been reviewed to ensure each one would provide up to date information for the future growth and development of our communities. "Now we want to know what you think, have we got the balance right," Cr Mustica said. "Where do you think the future industrial, commercial and residential growth should occur in your town?

"The majority of Moira’s economic and population growth is occurring within the four major towns with each of these towns having a strategy plan guiding land use and development decisions – so it’s vital to ensure these guiding documents are current.

"There are a number of recommendations in the review with the main outcome being the Cobram, Numurkah and Nathalia Strategy Plans remain relevant and largely unchanged while Yarrawonga would be better served through the 2017 Growth Management Strategy.

"The review also suggests providing additional land for development and ongoing monitoring and land supply and potential technological disruptions, including the installation of NBN and the rise of Airbnb."

The Major Towns Strategy Review recommends –

•Yarrawonga – adopt the Yarrawonga Growth Management Strategy; implement a new framework plan consistent with the Growth Strategy; investigate commercial floor space tothe south of Belmore Street.

•Cobram – implement revised Cobram Framework Plan showing additional industrial areas; investigate potential mixed use land along Ritchie Road.

•Numurkah – implement revised Numurkah Framework Plan showing additional industrial areas.

•Nathalia – implement revised Nathalia Framework Plan showing additional industrial areas.

"The review also suggests strong advocacy to encourage and support good access to internet and mobile phone coverage," Cr Mustica said. "A framework for monitoring and reviewing housing supply and demand across the shire has also been proposed."
