Community Engagement Policy Review

Council adopted its first Community Engagement Policy in February 2021 in accordance with Section 55 of the Local Government Act 2020.

Council is reviewing this policy in order to improve community satisfaction in Council’s Community Engagement practices.

The review will also continue to ensure:

Council's engagement commitments to the community are clear and comprehensive;
compliance with the principles of community engagement as defined in the Local Government Act 2020.

Changes proposed

The draft policy includes the following key changes:

Being more prescriptive on the engagement level and methods we will undertake for a particular project;
Enhanced detail regarding statutory requirements;
Reasons for limited engagement;
Caretaker period considerations;
Reporting back to the Council and the Community;
Complaints about Community Engagement;
Monitoring and Reporting of Non-compliance.
