Federation Park - Palm Tree Update

We want to provide the community with an update on the large Canary Island Date Palm in Federation Park, Cobram. Despite ongoing care and efforts to improve its health, the tree has not shown recovery, and the cause of its decline remains unclear.

Unfortunately, the palm’s deteriorating condition is now affecting the overall appearance of this important park space. After careful consideration, we have made the decision to remove the tree.

To maintain the park’s visual appeal, our plan is to replant two significant trees—either native or exotic—to create a welcoming entrance to Federation Park from the Murray Valley Highway. This work will be carried out by our Parks and Gardens and Arboriculture teams, keeping both the removal and replanting costs to a minimum.

We appreciate the community’s understanding as we work to keep Federation Park safe, healthy, and beautiful for everyone.
