Council grants strengthen communities across Moira

Community groups and programs have received a financial boost as part of Moira Shire Council’s commitment to community wellbeing.

The funding is part of Council’s ongoing Community Strengthening Grants program, which supports not-for-profit organisations to deliver projects, programs and events that benefit residents across the Shire.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the grants help remove barriers and create a Moira Shire that is healthy, safe and connected.

“Council is proud to partner with local community groups that understand the unique needs of our townships and work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for all,” Dr Emonson said.

“By fostering social and cultural inclusion, we are ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, ability or background, has equal opportunity to participate in and contribute to our community.”

More than $26,000 has been shared between three community groups as part of the latest round of grants.

Numurkah Community Learning Centre received funding for its Numurkah Lego Club, empowering young members to take the lead by planning and budgeting for a resource-gathering trip to grow the club’s equipment, building practical leadership skills and a sense of ownership along the way.

Marking 40 years of service, Numurkah Toy Library will use its grant for a digital upgrade, introducing a code-based system to streamline operations for volunteer workers and improve the experience for the young families who rely on the service.

Yarrawonga Neighbourhood House received funds to continue its popular Have a Chat, Talking Café, and Men’s Bush BBQ programs, which are designed to reduce isolation and create safe spaces for residents to connect. A new digital literacy program will also see young people helping older residents build confidence with technology and stay connected to their community.

All funded activities align with Council’s strategic priorities to ensure that as Moira grows, every resident feels included and supported.
