World Immunisation Week is an annual event observed globally to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination in protecting people of all ages against preventable diseases. In 2024 it will be celebrated from Monday 22 April to Sunday 28 April, with the goal of promoting the use of vaccines to safeguard health and wellbeing.

This World Immunisation Week, Moira Shire Council is reminding our communities on the importance of keeping up-to-date with vaccinations, particularly through Council’s school immunisation program.

“School immunisations sessions are beginning around the municipality this week. Our Immunisation nurses will be seeing hundreds of Year 7 and Year 10 students over the coming week, providing the relevant immunisations for each age group,” said Chair Administrator John Tanner AM.

“If you have a child in these year groups and you have not received the details to provide consent for an immunisation session, please contact your school. Alternatively, you can contact Council’s Immunisations team who will be able to assist.”

As the weather begins to cool, World Immunisation Week also serves as a reminder for our community to book in for their annual Influenza (flu) vaccination.

“Getting the flu shot is crucial for both individuals and public health - it helps limit the spread of flu within our communities, protecting those who may not be able to receive the vaccination themselves,” said Mr Tanner.

“Council will be hosting community flu vaccination sessions in May, where community members will be able to book an appointment and get their vaccination from our Immunisation team. Keep on eye on Council’s website and social media for more information.”
