Council has voted to grant Barooga Sporties up to $100,000 over two financial years to subsidise the provision of indoor heated pool facilities on the basis of an equivalent contribution from Berrigan Shire.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the health and fitness centre at Barooga Sporties was well patronised with approximately 50,000 visits each year, with a large portion coming from Moira Shire.
We believe this facility will play an important role in the community during the COVID-19 recovery phase, when residents can re-engage in an active and social lifestyle.
There has certainly been a substantial groundswell of community support both sides of the river for this facility to remain open.
We have met with representatives from Barooga Sporties; the General Manager from Berrigan Shire and our CEO Mark Henderson are yet to work through the details of this co-funded grant.
