Dogs on/off leash

Under the provisions of section 26 of the Domestic Animals Act 1994(PDF, 2MB), Moira Shire Council provides a number of off leash areas to exercise your dogs.

Dogs can be exercised off a leash in daylight hours at the:

  • Cobram Showground
  • Cobram Scott Reserve
  • Yarrawonga Showground
  • Yarrawonga JC Lowe Oval Reserve
  • Numurkah Showgrounds and Recreation Reserve 
  • Nathalia Showgrounds and Recreation Reserve 
  • Tungamah Recreation Reserve 
  • Strathmerton Recreation Reserve 
  • Katamatite Recreation Reserve 
  • Katunga Recreation Reserve 
  • Picola Recreation Reserve 
  • Waaia Recreation Reserve 
  • Yarroweyah Recreation Reserve 
  • Wunghnu Recreation Reserve 
  • Yalca Recreation Reserve 
  • Invergordon Recreation Reserve 
  • All other Football Grounds in Moira Shire.

Dogs must be in the presence of the owner.

The off leash provisions do not apply when an organised sporting event or similar activity is in progress.  During these events dogs must on a leash.

Dogs are prohibited in the following areas
        • School grounds throughout the municipality;
        • Municipal swimming pools and surrounds;
        • Yarrawonga foreshore between Hunt Street/Bank Street and the waters edge, between Belmore Street and Woods Roads; and
        • Thompson’s Beach, Cobram the area between the pine post boundary along the access track and car park to the waters edge.

In addition, dogs are not permitted near or in playground areas or recreation reserves in which a no dogs permitted sign is present.

 

Dogs are permitted to be present in all other municipal places and public places only while fully constrained on a leash.

Dog owners must carry bags and clean up after their dogs.
