Moira Shire Council is proud to take part in the 2026 Victorian Seniors Festival, supporting the delivering of free and low-cost events for our senior residents throughout October. This October, connect or re-connect with your interests, skills and hobbies, create your own path and remain curious as you age, and celebrate positive ageing with your community.

Moira Shire Council and the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing are supporting the seniors of Moira to host four community pop-up expos, showcasing all that the Senior Citizens Centre have to offer, as well as bringing together a range of local services, information and supports in Cobram, Yarrawonga, Nathalia and Numurkah.

In addition to the Senior Citizens, come along to the expos and meet with Local Health Services, Community Houses, MHA Care, GV Libraries, YMCA, Dementia Australia, FamilyCare, Primary Care Connect, and many others.

Dementia Australia will be providing a range of free information and resources to support people living with dementia, their families and carers. Two of the most popular resources are The Dementia Guide for people diagnosed aged 65 and over, and the Younger Onset Dementia Guide for those diagnosed under 65. Both provide practical information about dementia, treatment and support, planning for the future, and caring for someone with dementia. Also, information about Dementia Australia's services, Worried About Your Memory?, and BrainTrack, an app that helps you monitor changes in your memory and thinking over time. The Dementia Australia team will be available to answer questions, provide information, and explain how you can access or be referred to Dementia Australia's services.

Primary Care Connect is a local, not-for-profit organisation who has proudly supported our community for over 30 years. Operating under the social model of health, we offer inclusive community health care services of the highest quality. We work collaboratively with our clients and other services to best support the health and wellbeing needs of all people. 

Primary Care Connect will be hosting a stall at all events consisting of staff working across Gamblers Help, Financial Services, Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Allied Health. 


GV Libraries

Your local library is a community space offering traditional library services such as books, DVDs and audiobooks, as well as events and activities for all ages. Author talks, craft groups, guest speakers, movie afternoons, story time for pre-school children and school holiday activities are just some of the free activities offered at your local library. We provide free internet and Wi-Fi access, and tech help sessions to get you started. Free access to eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, video streaming and a multitude of other digital resources is available at the Goulburn Valley Libraries website, www.gvlibraries.com.au. Access for extended hours is available for eligible members. Membership is free for all our libraries - join one and you have access to all.


MHA Care

MHA Care is a trusted not-for-profit organisation that has been supporting older people, people living with disability, and carers across North East Victoria for almost 20 years. MHA Care is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred services that promote independence, wellbeing and community connection. Visit MHA Care at the expo to learn about our range of aged care and community support services, including Support at Home (SAH) Packages and the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). Services include domestic assistance, personal care, respite, social support, Meals on Wheels, home maintenance, home modifications, Planned Activity Groups (PAG) and clinical supports. The team will also provide information on the new Support at Home program and help attendees understand their aged care options, eligibility, and pathways to accessing support. Whether you are planning ahead for yourself or supporting a loved one, MHA Care is here to help you live independently and confidently at home.


YMCA

YMCA Victoria manages recreation facilities across Moira Shire on behalf of Moira Shire Council, providing welcoming places for people of all ages to be active, connect and belong. At the Healthy Active Ageing Expos, the YMCA team will be hosting a range of fun and accessible activities exploring gentle movement, strength and balance, as well as inviting visitors to share what keeps them active and connected. The team will also be available to chat about relevant YMCA facilities, programs and services available locally and across the shire. No experience or particular level of fitness is needed, so come along, get involved and say hello to your local Y team.

  • Moira Shire Council Community Recovery and Resilience team work alongside residents, businesses and community groups across Moira Shire to help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and other challenging events.
    How we can help:
  • Emergency and disaster recovery support – connecting you with the right information, services and financial assistance after floods, fires or other emergencies
  • Community resilience planning – helping local groups, businesses and neighbourhoods prepare for future events
  • Wellbeing and connection – linking you to mental health, financial counselling and community support services
  • Local knowledge, local support – a friendly, familiar face who understands Moira and its communities
  • Information and referrals – helping you navigate government and community support programs so you're not doing it alone

PALS

Providing All Living Supports (PALS) is a trusted local disability support provider, supporting people to live independently, build meaningful connections and take an active part in their communities.

Through personalised support—including supported independent living, community access and daily living assistance—PALS helps people pursue their goals, strengthen their independence, and live with dignity, choice and wellbeing.


Royal Flying Doctor Service

Flying Doctor Community Transport provides free, volunteer-driven transport for people in Cobram and Numurkah who would otherwise struggle to access essential medical, health and social support appointments. By connecting local residents with the care they need, the service helps overcome transport barriers, reduces reliance on family members and carers, and supports people to remain connected to their community. As a donor-funded service, it is made possible by the generosity of local supporters and the dedication of volunteer drivers.

At the Seniors Expo, we will be sharing information about our Move Well, Cancer Wellness and Cardiac programs, My Aged Care support, diabetes management and Virtual Emergency Doctor (VED) service.

Visitors can learn more about local health services, explore practical tools to support their health and wellbeing, and discover programs designed to help them live well as they age.

FamilyCare

If you are a carer there is support for you too. 

If you are supporting a parent, partner, sibling or friend who is living with a disability, a medical condition, mental illness or age related frailty come and meet with the friendly staff from Familycare’s Carer Gateway team. 

They will provide you with information on a range of free supports that are available to give carers the help they need and support you to register with the Carer Gateway. 

Carer Gateway is funded by the Australian Government and designed by carers for carers.

YMCA Victoria manages recreation facilities across Moira Shire on behalf of Moira Shire Council, providing welcoming places for people of all ages to be active, connect and belong. Numurkah Community Learning Centre

Numurkah Community Learning Centre is pleased to be joining the Seniors Expo at the Numurkah Senior Citizens Club. The Expo is a great opportunity for us to connect with local seniors, showcase the range of classes and activities available through the Centre, and let people know about the learning and support opportunities we offer within our community. On the day, we will also be providing friendly help with phones and tablets, assisting people with things such as using apps, adjusting settings, sending messages, accessing information online and answering those everyday technology questions that can sometimes be frustrating. We want everyone to feel comfortable and confident using their technology, while also encouraging seniors to stay connected, active and involved in the community. We look forward to meeting people at the Expo, having a chat and showing how the Numurkah Community Learning Centre can support lifelong learning at any age.

This October, the Tungamah Senior Citizens will host a free Garden Party Concert in the Park as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival.
