With the expected La Nina weather forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology and the continuation of good spring rains, Moira Shire Council is encouraging residents to clean up their properties in the lead up to the fire season.

General Manager Community Sally Rice said Council was offering free green waste disposal at its nine transfer stations for the full month of November to all residents.

“While you can still deposit organic waste in your green lidded organics bin, any excess green waste you may have, including large branches, can be dropped off at our transfer stations and be turned into mulch which will then be made available to the public,” Ms Rice said.

“Please note, this is for residents only, not commercial businesses.

“This service continues our environmental commitment by recycling garden and other organic waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ultimately prolonging the life of our existing Cobram landfill site as well as saving money in waste disposal costs.”

Free green waste disposal will be available from Sunday 1 November until Monday 30 November at Cobram, Yarrawonga, Nathalia, Numurkah, St James, Strathmerton, Tungamah, Barmah and Yabba transfer stations.
