Strong public support for Yarrawonga boat ramp
Published on 27 March 2026
Moira Shire Council recently sought feedback from the community on the boat ramp located as part of the Yarrawonga Holiday Park to help inform master planning for the future of the Holiday Park.
The feedback clearly indicated a preference for retaining public access and use of the boat ramp.
Before Council considers this matter further, the Yarrawonga Holiday Park will be requested to consider possible ways to maintain public access as part of their future planning processes to determine if other options are feasible. This will also include better understanding of current usage of the boat ramp.
In the meantime, public access to the boat ramp is unchanged.
A report to Council has detailed the results of community consultation on the boat ramp.
A poll attracted 517 responses, of which 98% said the holiday park ramp should remain open to the public.
A more detailed survey with 158 respondents, plus written submissions, echoed the poll’s results.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said it is important to fully consider the feasibility of a range of potential options that consider plans to substantially redevelop the Holiday Park, and usage of the boat ramp.
“The boat ramp is used for fishing, boating and recreation – and it is important that we understand the extent of that use as part of future master planning processes for the Holiday Park.”
Council undertook community engagement following concerns from the Yarrawonga Holiday Park about operational and safety challenges for the park, and difficulties implementing future improvements, caused by public access to the ramp.
Closing public access to the park ramp had also been foreshadowed several years ago by the previous Council, once the Cullens Road ramp was built.
Dr Emonson said there were some recurring themes in the community’s support for the holiday park boat ramp, including water levels, safety, ease-of-use, proximity to town and access for shore-based fishing.
“To assist with understanding the impact of maintaining public access and to further inform a potential masterplan for the holiday park, there will be an assessment of actual use and type of use of the boat ramp,” he said.
“This will reveal the impact from foot traffic versus vehicle traffic at different times of the day and different times of the year.”
