Special celebration to thank Moira’s volunteers
Published on 08 May 2025
Moira’s volunteers are being celebrated this month. Moira Shire Council will be hosting several events in May as part of National Volunteer Week which runs from May 19-23.
Local volunteers are being encouraged to attend, with the events open to anyone in Moira Shire who volunteers, including at clubs, committees, panels, schools, community groups, and more.
The afternoon teas will feature guest speakers, prizes, and a chance for volunteers to relax and enjoy the celebrations.
Moira Shire volunteer celebratory afternoon teas will be held on:
- Monday 19 May, 1pm- 3pm – Yarroweyah Memorial Hall
- Wednesday 21 May, 1pm- 3pm – St James Public Hall
- Thursday 22 May, 1pm- 3pm – Picola Public Hall
- Friday 23 May, 1pm- 3pm – Wunghnu Recreation Reserve
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Graeme Emonson PSM said this was an opportunity to celebrate the people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
“Volunteers are such an important part of communities in Moira Shire, and play a key role in building our communities, supporting recreation, events and community services,” Dr Emonson said.
“National Volunteer Week is a great opportunity to raise awareness of how important volunteers are in enriching and strengthening our communities, and in bringing people together to create better connections and outcomes for Moira’s residents.
“We congratulate the hundreds of people in our Shire who generously commit many hours each week, to support the running of Moira’s community facilities, local emergency services, Meals on Wheels, event organisers, sporting, community and school committees, community transport drivers, and op shop assistants.”
National Volunteer Week also encourages people to get involved in volunteering in their communities where they can. Opportunities can be found on Volunteering Australia’s website or through local groups.
