Moira Shire Council has welcomed the expansion of the Goulburn Valley Designated Area Migration Agreement (GV DAMA), with an additional 82 hard-to-fill occupations now approved by the Department of Home Affairs following consultation with local industries.

Cobram will host a free information session about the recent updates and new occupations on Wednesday June 11, with local employers encouraged to attend for information about how they can access the program.

The GV DAMA, a partnership between Moira Shire Council, Greater Shepparton City Council, and Campaspe Shire Council, enables local businesses to fill critical workforce gaps by sponsoring skilled migrants where suitable local workers are not available.

Since its launch in 2021, the GV DAMA has helped dozens of businesses across the region attract skilled international workers who contribute not only to local industry, but also to the social and cultural fabric of the community.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Graeme Emonson PSM said the expansion is a timely boost for Moira’s key industries.

“The addition of these 82 occupations means our local businesses will have greater access to skilled workers, helping them to grow, innovate, and continue contributing to the region’s prosperity,” Dr Emonson said.

“This program is not about replacing local workers—it’s about filling gaps where businesses can’t find the skills they need locally.

“These information sessions are a great opportunity for people to hear from key government agencies, access practical information about being involved in the program and a chance to ask any questions.”

The GV DAMA Skilled Migration Information Sessions will be held at the following locations:

  • Cobram: Wednesday 11 June, 9.30am to 11.00am, Cobram Civic Centre, Punt Road
  • Echuca: Wednesday 11 June, 3.00pm to 4.30pm, Campaspe Shire Council Function Room, Heygarth Street
  • Shepparton: Thursday 12 June, 3.00pm to 4.30pm, Greater Shepparton City Council Boardroom, 90 Welsford Street
