A trial of two free overnight parking locations in Numurkah has been endorsed by Moira Shire Council in response to a petition calling for the town to be endorsed as a Recreational Vehicle (RV) Friendly Town.

Mayor Libro Mustica said following receipt of the petition a review of the RV Friendly Strategy was conducted, including a public survey, which showed the vast majority of respondents wanted Numurkah to become an RV friendly town.

“This two year trial in Numurkah will involve provision of free overnight camping at two locations – the Numurkah Showgrounds and Lion’s Park,” Cr Mustica said.

“There are some stringent conditions to this trial including a maximum of 15 vehicles parked on site at any one time; parking of up to 48 hours only; fully self-contained RVs only are allowed; no tent camping; and no amenities will be provided.

“We are finalising the details regarding easy access to the public dump point at the Showgrounds, and those details will be released shortly.

“Once the conditions and official signage have been finalised and installed, Numurkah’s RV Friendly status will commence for the duration of the two year trial.”

Cr Mustica said it is hoped the trial will bring more visitors to Numurkah and the surrounding district.

“With the RV Friendly status, I am sure once visitors discover Numurkah they will wish to stay longer and explore our local businesses, attractions and all that Numurkah has to offer.”
