Nominations are closing soon for Moira Shire’s Australia Day Awards and people are being encouraged to recognise those in their community who help make Moira a better place to live, work and play.

The awards celebrate Moira’s volunteers and people who go above and beyond, residents who are achieving great things, and people who are working tirelessly to create new opportunities for their region.

Moira Shire Council is inviting nominations in six award categories – Citizen of the Year; Junior Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Community Event of the Year; Community Organisation of the Year; and Arts, Culture and/or Environment Project of the Year.

Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said this was an opportunity to recognise contribution to building Moira’s communities.

“The Australia Day Awards are a great opportunity for us to celebrate people who do a lot of work behind the scenes to keep groups running, or are achieving something special in their chosen fields,” Dr Emonson said.

“If you look around your club, group or organisation, there will be someone who deserves to be recognised for their commitments, and we encourage you to submit a nomination.

“We know people don’t do what they do for recognition, but as a community it’s really important that we shine a light on their achievements.”

Nominations will be honoured at individual town ceremonies to be held on Australia Day 2026, hosted by the Australia Day Committee representatives throughout the shire.

Nominations can be made via the Moira Shire Council website: https://www.moira.vic.gov.au/Community/Awards/Australia-Day-Awards

Nominations close on Friday 21 November 2025.
