Moira Shire’s local businesses will have more support in getting through the pandemic, following the council’s move to join the Small Business Friendly Council initiative.

The initiative aims to make it easier to run a business, and it’s being rolled out across the state by the Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) in partnership with councils.

Commissioner Judy O’Connell and Moira Shire Council CEO Mark Henderson made it official by signing the initiative’s Charter.

This represents the council’s commitment to:

• supporting the growth of local business networks

• helping to manage disruption to business trade caused by council works

• promoting how the VSBC can help and more.

Moira Shire supports over 10,900 jobs across a range of industries, from agriculture – including horticulture, cereal, livestock and dairy – to food processing and tourism.

The move builds on current council measures including their Business Concierge service to streamline approvals for people looking to start a business locally, and their commitment to pay small business suppliers promptly.

Moira Shire Council joins nearby City of Wodonga and Greater Shepparton City Council in having said ‘yes!’ to backing their local business owners through this initiative.
