Moira Shire Council has written to the Victorian Minister for Energy, the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio, asking her to urgently address the ongoing and increasingly frequent power outages affecting Yarrawonga and surrounding communities.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the community continues to experience unacceptable levels of power disruption, with regular and prolonged outages creating substantial hardships for many people.

“The situation has deteriorated significantly,” Dr Emonson said.

“We understand that there have been more power outages occurring in the last 28 days alone than we experienced throughout the last three years combined.

“This alarming escalation demonstrates the urgent need for immediate intervention.

“These ongoing power reliability issues are compromising community safety and wellbeing, and undermining confidence in our region’s infrastructure capacity.

“The residents and businesses of Yarrawonga deserve reliable energy infrastructure that matches their contributions to Victoria's economic and social fabric.”

Council has requested Minister D’Ambrosio to conduct an immediate investigation into the root causes of these recurring outages and take action to prevent them happening again.

“We want infrastructure upgrades made a priority to ensure reliable power supply for our growing community,” Dr Emonson said.

“Moira Shire Council stands ready to work collaboratively with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and relevant energy distributors to find early and sustainable solutions.”
