As the region faces a week of extreme heat and high fire danger, Moira Shire Council is urging everyone to keep cool and stay safe.

With temperatures soaring into the mid-40s, and the fire danger expected to peak on Friday, there will be some closures of Council services while others will be extended.

Outdoor swimming pools across the Shire will remain open until 8pm on days above 38 degrees, while residents seeking a cool refuge are encouraged to visit our libraries during regular opening hours.

All Resource Recovery Centres and the Cobram Landfill will be closed on days of Total Fire Ban and Catastrophic Fire Danger. Please check the CFA website for the fire rating before visiting the Resource Recovery Centres or the Cobram Landfill.

Kerbside waste collections will continue as usual, but may be carried out earlier on your collection day.

Moira Shire Council CEO Matthew Morgan encouraged residents to keep checking the Moira Shire website and social platforms as the week progressed for further potential changes to Council services.

“There may be further changes to service delivery as the temperature and fire danger rating for each day becomes clearer,” Mr Morgan said.

“Above all, we urge everyone to stay cool and well-hydrated, and ensure vulnerable loved ones and neighbours are safe.

“It’s also important everyone living in our rural areas have their bushfire action plan up-to-date and ready to activate in the event of a fire.”

Mr Morgan also encouraged residents to download the VicEmergency app or check the VicEmergency website for vital updates, warnings and incident notifications.
