Council is calling for submissions to the draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2022-26.

Mayor Libro Mustica said this key strategy would guide Council's operations, investment, and direction on how to best support the community and partners over the next four years.

"Moira Shire has a diverse natural landscape with beautiful, forested rivers and waterways, lakes, productive agricultural plains and gentle sloping hills," Cr Mustica said.

"Our landscape supports an array of plants and wildlife and, as a community, we are also depending upon the environment in which we live.

"There are many threats to the health and wellbeing of our natural environment and our communities, now and into the future.

"Some of these threats include water security; a warming and drying climate with more extreme weather events; loss of plant and animal species; and high consumption habits and generation of waste."

Cr Mustica said Moira was not alone in facing these challenges.

"Sustainability is a global challenge," he said.

"However these threats also present opportunities for change, to better value our natural environment and work towards a sustainable future.

"While we can think about these issues in the global sense, we must act locally.

"Now is the time for everyone to do their part."

The draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2022-26 builds on the achievements of the two previous strategies.
