Applications are closing soon for Round 2 of the Community Strengthening Program - Minor Grants up to $5,000.

If you are a non-profit community group or organisation seeking funding for your project or event, then these grants are for you.

Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica said the grants were a great way to kick start a community initiative.

“Community grants are a vital function of the Moira Shire. They help to facilitate projects which enrich the whole community,” Cr Mustica said.

Minor Grants provide community organisations an opportunity to apply for funding through Arts and Culture, Community Events, Equipment, Health Promotion and Environmental Sustainability.

Art and Culture projects or events could include holding skills development workshops, hosting music or arts events and exhibitions, or workshops with community public arts outcomes.

Health Promotion ideas which could be funded from this funding pool include projects supporting active and healthy lifestyles or opportunities to educate the community about mental health, drug and alcohol issues.

Various types of Equipment which has been funded by Council’s minor grants in the past include shelters, fencing / bollards, sporting club equipment, sound systems and defibrillators

Under the Environmental Sustainability category of Council’s Minor Grants Program, people can submit applications for projects that save water, energy or emissions such as the purchase of water saving fixtures and appliances, rooftop solar systems and energy efficient heating, cooling and lighting.

“You apply online by visiting our website and if you require assistance in either planning your project or completing your application form council officers are here to help,” Cr Mustica said.

“If you require access to a computer, libraries across the shire have computers available for public use.”

Applications close at 4pm on Friday, 9 March 2018.
