Moira Shire Council will receive $20,000 from the Victorian Government’s Pet Desexing Program to assist in desexing cats owned by disadvantaged members of the community.

Mayor Libro Mustica said this grant would ensure Moira Shire’s most vulnerable pet owners could access this service for their pets.

“This will help limit the numbers of unwanted cats,” Cr Mustica said.

“When this program began in August 2020, Council has issued more than 170 vouchers for desexing which has resulted in 152 cats being desexed.

“There is still a steady demand for this program and in the recent Domestic Animal Management Plan consultation, feedback suggested strong community support for this desexing program to continue.

“This funding will not only provide critical desexing services, it will also improve animal welfare outcomes for our much-loved pets.”
