After a false start with the Victorian Lockdowns, the much anticipated Discovery Weekend will now take place this coming weekend – 14 and 15 August – albeit in a more sedate fashion.

Mayor Libro Mustica said residents will enjoy scrumptious local produce, coffee, wine, golfing packages, cactus tours and more – all from just $1.

“However, with the border restrictions still in place our NSW compatriots will not be able to attend and nor will Victorian residents be able to cross the border to visit some of those tourism businesses that were going to be a part of the original Discovery Weekend,” Cr Mustica said.

“We are committed to helping our communities to not only recover from the continuing COVID pandemic, but thrive, both economically and socially, so we are determined to forge ahead with this wonderful weekend.

“It will be a fantastic chance for Moira residents to explore their own backyard.

“It is also a great opportunity to have fun experience, catch up with family and friends, and get out and about in our beautiful part of Sun Country on the Murray.”

Cr Mustica said unlike the original Discovery Weekend, this pared down version won’t involve prizes for participating residents.

“We are still encouraging people to visit as many tourism businesses as possible though – their doors are open and they can’t wait to show you their produce and various experiences,” he said.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses who have put their hands up and continue to be a part of this weekend – your support and passion for our region is greatly appreciated.”
