Moira Shire Council has been successful in a bid for 30 NBN sites where the community can access data in an emergency within the Federal Government’s STAND project (Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters).

Mayor Libro Mustica said this vital project would ensure no communities in Moira Shire would be left behind during emergencies.

“Approval has been given for 30 NBN satellite dishes to be installed to aid the community in accessing the internet during a natural disaster,” Cr Mustica said.

“The Federal Government is completely funding this project at a cost of $21,000 per site, $630,000 in total.

“The satellites are being installed on various buildings which normally would be used during a natural disaster and other emergencies.

“They will provide constant free access to data, allowing residents to link in with services and family members, but will be accessible only during an emergency event.”
