Did your family come to Australia from the Varapodio area in Italy? Do you know someone whose family came from there?
Moira Shire Council would love to hear about your connections, stories, and memories, so we can help celebrate the Mayor of Varapodio's 30th anniversary.
A strong historical connection exists between the Calabrian town of Varapodio and Cobram.
Many families from Varapodio migrated to Cobram after World War Two, and even earlier. They established a vibrant Italo-Australian community and helped shape Cobram's cultural and social life.
Cobram has been described as a 'Little Varapodio', and Moira Shire is twinned with the Varapodio comune (municipality).
Moira is also twinned with Varapodio’s neighbour, the Comune of Molochio, whose residents have also made Cobram their home over the years.
The Mayor of Varapodio, Dr Orlando Fazzolari, will celebrate 30 years in the role on 19 November.
Council is sending a formal certificate of recognition as testimony to three decades of service to his community. But Council would also like to give Dr Fazzolari something a bit more personal.
We're looking for community members with connections to Varapodio to share any stories or memories their family has.
If you'd like to contribute, click the button below and fill in the form before Monday 16 November.
Or you can call our office on (03) 5871 9222 and ask for Robyn.
