Pet Adoption
Whether an animal arrives at the pound as a stray or is surrendered by its owner, it may become eligible for adoption following a thorough assessment and care process.
Health & Behaviour Screening
All animals undergo:

A veterinary examination to identify any current medical conditions; and

A behavioural assessment to screen for aggression, excessive barking, escape tendencies, or other behavioural concerns. Most pound animals do not have a known history and each animal’s behaviour may vary with different people, animals and environments.
Animals with minor or age-related health issues may still become available for adoption. Any known conditions and ongoing care requirements will be discussed with the prospective owner.
Before adoption, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the animal at the pound and introduce them to any existing pets to ensure compatibility.

✅ Council Adoption Guarantee
Council offers peace of mind with every adoption:

Health Guarantee: If an animal is deemed unsuitable due to health or physical reasons (excluding accidents), and a vet confirms this within 7 days of adoption, Council will refund the full adoption purchase price.

Change of Mind: If returned within 3 days for any other reason, Council will refund 75% of the purchase price or offer a replacement animal.

Health-Related Loss: If the animal dies or is euthanaised due to a disease traceable to the point of sale, Council will refund the purchase price or offer a replacement.
