Council is providing the opportunity for residents and community organisations to present project ideas to be included in the 2022/23 Budget that will make Moira Shire an even better place to live, work and play.

Mayor Libro Mustica said the first step in the Community Budget Proposal process was to submit your fully scoped project idea via Council’s website.

“Projects that could be considered to be included in the next financial year’s budget could be minor or major infrastructure works, sustainability projects, community programs or events,” Cr Mustica said.

“Each submission will be considered on its own merits.

“We are calling for submissions prior to the traditional budget submission period to ensure community members with great ideas for our area can be heard and their projects have the appropriate time to be considered.”

Cr Mustica said next year’s budget will be prepared in the wake of two years of enduring the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic, social, and health issues local communities suffered throughout this crisis.

“It is vital, especially during times of crisis, Council provides a solid framework from which our communities will thrive and rebuild quickly and efficiently,” he said.

“We aim to balance the many and often competing needs of the Moira community and the challenges of a relatively small population dispersed across a large geographic area.

“I encourage community groups and individuals to come and submit their proposals – we can’t wait to hear your ideas.”

The traditional Budget Submission period, held annually in April and May, will still go ahead however, this will be used primarily for the purposes of providing feedback on the draft 2022/23 Budget, not to present a bid or proposal.

All Community Budget Proposals must be submitted using the SmartyGrants process online via our website.

Submissions must be received by 5pm Friday 25 February 2022.

Submitters will be given the opportunity to speak in support of their Community Budget Proposal in early March 2022.
