Picola is ready to welcome visitors

Picola has a new Recreational Vehicle (RV) site and it’s open for visitors.
Travellers in fully self-contained RVs can now stay in one of three sites on the grassed area next to the Picola Public Hall for up to 48 hours at no charge.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM inspected the site recently, along with Friends of Picola Public Hall member Jeanette Holland and Nathalia Barmah Business and Tourism chair Roland Huber.
“This is a great new accommodation option for visitors to our region,” Dr Emonson said.
“RV-friendly locations are a drawcard for travellers, and we hope the new Picola site will encourage visitors to stay a while and enjoy everything Moira Shire has to offer.
“It will provide a welcome boost for local tourism.”
Jeanette Holland said the new RV site was important because it will bring people to Picola.
“We want people to visit our town – visit our hotel, visit our silo art, visit our park and learn about our heritage,” she said.
“This will give people an opportunity to stop here, when before they have just driven through. We hope they’ll stay longer. If we can achieve that it’s good for the town.”
Roland Huber said the RV site was exciting for Picola.
“It’s part of supporting local businesses and giving the opportunity for locals to talk to visitors and share their experiences,” he said.
“If we can get people to spend at least a couple of days here, they can go to the pub and meet some locals and hear their stories and life experiences.
“Then hopefully they’ll go home and tell their friends that we’re a friendly shire.”
