Moira Shire Council has received a $250,000 grant from the Victorian Government to support the activation of public outdoor areas for dining and entertainment, as a road to reopening from COVID-19 restrictions.

Manager Economic Development Austin Ley is urging businesses and the community to get their thinking caps on and submit their ideas.

“Our communities were affected both financially and emotionally by the necessary restrictions and we are confident this grant will encourage families to come out and enjoy our local areas again,” Mr Ley said.

“Some of the ideas could include the hire and management of entertainment infrastructure including bollards or planter boxes; temporary street furniture or marquees; additional waste management; fast-tracking outdoor permits and waiving fees and charges; ideas to manage and coordinate precinct activation; and marketing and communications to promote outdoor entertainment initiatives.

“This funding complements the Victorian Government’s separate provision of $5,000 grants for individual businesses to activate outdoor dining at their premises and will support the implementation of business infrastructure or permits required.”

Submissions close 5pm on Friday 20 November.
