Blake Street in Nathalia is undergoing a street light renewal program.

Mayor Libro Mustica said many residents would have noticed some of the street lights along the main street were not working.

“Powercor, who maintain all streetlights, have notified us the street lights are non-standard and therefore take a long time and a large sum of money to source and replace,” Cr Mustica said.

“The only suitable, nonstandard light fitting available to the market costs approximately $3,500 per fitting.

“Replacing all 22 non-standard street lights along Blake Street will therefore cost Council approximately $77,000.

“Standard light fittings on the other hand are replaced by Powercor at almost no cost to Council and within two or three business days.”

In order to reduce both current and ongoing costs, Moira Shire Council is requesting Powercor progressively replace all 22 non-standard street lights along Blake Street with standard fittings.

The new fittings will look slightly different and works will commence in coming weeks.
