Over the past few months a group of dedicated community members has met to discuss and plan a long-term vision for Moira Shire.

The result is Moira 2035 – a Community Vision which will form an integral part of shaping the work Council does over the next ten years and beyond.

Mayor Libro Mustica said, in particular, the work a panel of 28 community members undertook was exemplary and the resulting Community Vision described the aspirations for the future of the municipality.

“The Moira 2035 Community Vision touches on all aspects of life in our shire – healthy, connected communities; a prosperous economy; sustainable growth; and a country lifestyle,” Cr Mustica said.

“The Vision is a celebration of all that is positive in our shire and focuses on the future with a clear purpose.

“This vital document was developed primarily by a diverse panel of community representatives who participated in an indepth workshop with meaningful discussions and run by an independent facilitator.

“In addition the entire community was invited to share their thoughts via a survey.”

Cr Mustica said COVID-19 health restrictions created some difficulties for the panel workshop.

“It was a credit to all panel members for their dedication to this process,” he said.

“The workshop was unique with some participants ‘zooming in’ and some attending in person.

“It was a testament to the passion and commitment of these community members that they didn’t let continuing COVID restrictions hamper them in this vital process.”

Cr Mustica said the main focus of Moira 2035 was to be a connected, Health, educated and inclusive community of towns, regions, businesses and natural spaces including the best features of the Murray River.

“The Vision goes onto say we will have a sustainable lifestyle which protects the environment and enables business opportunities,” he said.

“Our Shire will celebrate our cultural and indigenous heritage and embraces our future as a community in which to live, visit and stay.

“Our community will be enabled and supported by a progressive, consultative, accountable, transparent and responsive Council.”
