We asked Councillor Peter Elliott the following:
1. What is your connection to Moira?
I was born and bred in Bundalong and grew up on the family dairy farm. This community has always been very special to me. I have been a passionate supporter of local sport and have consistently contributed to our community including chairperson of the Bundalong Action Group for the past 15 years.
2. What do you think is the greatest strength of the Moira community?
Moira's greatest strength, I believe, is its diversity, its culture, its sense of community. Along with greatest challenges like looking after and respecting our wonderful mighty Murray River.
3. What made you decide to run for Council?
Being a local for most of my life thus far, remaining grounded and being community minded, I feel that running for council would give me the chance to give something back. I can contribute my passion, skills and local knowledge to facilitate and back beneficial change.
4. What do you hope to achieve in your term as a Moira Shire Councillor?
I promise to take my civil responsibility seriously and represent our electorate with respect, transparency and accountability. I will back decisions that provide employment opportunities and community engagement for all ages, especially our youth. As well as creating a confident feel to willingly engage with Council on any issue.
5. What is your favourite thing to do in Moira?
Where do I start? My favourite would be enjoying water skiing-boating with family on any given summer weekend on beautiful Lake Mulwala. Engaging with mates at the local footy in winter or maybe a weekend drive to any one of neighbouring shires to bush walk, bike ride or a hit of golf with family and friends.
