Applications are now open for interested community members who wish to apply for sponsorship funding for the Goulburn Murray Fairley Leadership Program.

General Manager Community Sally Rice said the Fairley Leadership Program involved learning about the region’s challenges, the opportunity to gain new skills, grow confidence, build self-resilience and become part of a network of leaders.

“You will also have access to continuing educational and networking opportunities to help advance your community leadership goals,” Ms Rice said.

“Community Leadership is the courage, creativity and capacity to inspire participation, development and sustainability for strong communities.

“Over the 11 months of the Fairley Leadership Program, participants attend weekend retreats, seminar days, and study tours to Melbourne and Canberra.

“Topics of learning include health, education, water, regional development, Indigenous issues, small towns, the arts and agriculture.

“A Fairley graduate will serve as a role model and mentor within the community.”

Past sponsorship recipient and Fairley graduate Lyn Hewson said participating in the program was a fantastic opportunity.

“It was an amazing learning journey,” Ms Hewson said.

“We had the privilege of hearing many diverse leaders from a wide range of sectors.

“The richness of an experience like this will expand your knowledge, your self-awareness, your networks and your sense of achievement.

‘If you want to change and learn, it is a perfect opportunity.”

Moira Shire Sponsorship funding is available for a maximum of half of the costs of the Fairley Leadership Program.
