This project aims to kick start the Moira Shire contribution to the Murray River Adventure Trail by being its initial stage in Moira.

It is a standalone project and is part of an aspirational goal to link Yarrawonga and Cobram (40kms) with riverside cycling/ walking trails (CWT).

Stage One:

Roadside

Includes installation of:

  • A 13.5km bitumen primer seal CWT on the Northern side of the Murray Valley Highway within the road reserve (2.5m wide), this includes upgrading the existing 2.5km granitic sand track at the Yarrawonga end;
  • Appropriate crossings and signage for the duration of the CWT;
  • Mapping and indicator signs (digital, printed and in-situ physical) of routes highlighting features of the trail (e.g.  cultural, environmental and hospitality businesses) including directions for taking in riverside loops;
  • Determining and signing/ mapping the Yarrawonga urban stretch to end the ride at the Yarrawonga Visitor Information Centre on the Yarrawonga Foreshore;
  • Install infrastructure at the Yarrawonga end in accordance with the MRT style guide (yet to be released); and
  • Promotion of the CWT (when installed)

Riverside

Involves the development of promotional collateral and marketing campaigns to open up the existing road and trail network for cycling and walking. This will offer an expanded tourism product for existing users of the Murray River Park and invite a whole new population, both local and visitors alike, to experience and appreciate the Murray River environs.

This project is jointly funded by Council and the Australian Government's Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program - Round 2. It  will be delivered in partnership with Parks Victoria.

This project will be delivered by a number of contractors including Tompkinson Group, O'Loughlin Excavations Pty Ltd and EDA Project Management Pty Ltd.
