Yarrawonga Food Truck Carnival Q&A
What is a Food Truck Carnival?
The Food Truck Carnival is a five-day event featuring a variety of Melbourne's best food trucks offering a selection of international dishes for the local community to enjoy. The Carnival will also feature a range of entertainment options, including music, performances, competitions and children's activities.
Why are we hosting a Food Truck Carnival?
An event such as this has the potential to bring between 2000-6000 visitors into the region with an average length of stay of one-and-half-days. This equates to 1000-3000 overnight stays in the region. This event is also a great opportunity to showcase our region and to encourage return visitation.
The operators approached Council. This is a good opportunity to market our region to a whole new area of visitors and encourage return visitation. This is a first regional trial and is expected to attract significant visitation to the town and the shire.
Where will it be held?
The Carnival will be held on the Yarrawonga foreshore between Aquazone and Murphy Street, near where the regular Farmer’s Market and Twilight Markets are held.
What are the opening hours of the Food Truck Carnival?
The Food Truck Carnival’s opening hours are 12noon – 10pm from Wednesday 4 January 2017 to Saturday 7 January and 12noon-9pmSunday 8 January 2017.
How many can attend the event at any one point in time?
The gated event will be capped at 4000 people through the gates at any one point in time, and is expected to attract thousands of attendees each day.
Why not hold the event off-peak season?
As this is the first time the event is held in a regional area, the event organisers have chosen a busy time of the year to hold the event. If successful the event organisers are considering an off-peak season version of the event, which will have an even stronger economic impact on Moira Shire.
How many Food Trucks?
The Carnival will include up to 18 food trucks on the foreshore. The initial request was for 35 food trucks over 10 days and this has been downscaled to 18 trucks over five days. Staged music and roaming entertainment forms part of this event.
What are the benefits of the event?
The event will have a positive economic impact through increased visitation to the region. The Carnival will also encourage local participation through utilisation of local produce and a preferred suppliers’ app for the Food Trucks, entertainment and marketing partnerships, physical stalls for locals with site fees waived, local employment in cleaning and traffic management. The event will also boost marketing and promotion of the region.
How can local businesses be involved?
There is a Local Business Expression of Interest form which businesses can fill in. The Event organisers are looking to feature stalls that sell items such as coffee, cakes, bakery goods and local fruit, vegetables, cheese and deli products. The operators of the Festival can provide marquees, water and power for stall holders to ensure consistency. They propose a marquee hire fee to cover these costs, as well as marketing and signage.
There is also potential for business owners to be involved in other ways.
