Katamatite Maternal and Child Health building to be removed

Moira Shire Council this week voted to remove the Katamatite Maternal and Child Health Building and reinstate the area.
There was no community interest to use the building during an Expression of Interest process last year.
The building, on the corner of Moore Street and the Benalla-Tocumwal Road has been vacant since February 2012 when Council’s immunisation service was relocated. The building is on Crown Land which is managed by Moira Shire.
Council conducted an Expression of Interest process late last year to gauge community interest in leasing this, and four other, Council owned or managed buildings that are currently fully or partially vacant.
Council received no submissions for the use of this building, but continue to pay electricity and water rates for the building, which is located on Crown land next to the tennis courts.
Moira Shire CEO Mark Henderson said there was no interest from the community to lease the building.
“Council has undertaken an extensive process to identify any potential uses, including an Expression of Interest process in December last year,” Mr Henderson said.
“Given the lack of community interest in the building, the best solution for the community is to return this area to parkland. This will allow the area to be freed up and further enhance the use of the park with the potential for future beautification works.”
