Movement at Numurkah Tyre dump

A B-double of tyres left the Sidebottom site in Numurkah last week as a first step in fulfilling a Supreme Court order to clear the site. It’s been a protracted legal battle to reach this stage according to Moira Shire CEO Mark Henderson but the Council stuck with it to get the problem resolved.
“We had numerous failed commitments along the way but finally Shanan Sidebottom gave a personal undertaking to the Court that his Company will honour the order and progressively remove the stockpile of tyres. It won’t happen overnight but the Court order has milestone targets which should lead to all tyres being cleared by August 2018,” said Mr Henderson.
The first milestone is April 2017.
“We will be closely monitoring progress through visual checks and receipts from accredited recyclers. The Numurkah community has been incredibly patient waiting for progress on this matter which clearly posed a safety risk to residents.”
“Hopefully we won’t have to re-appear in Court to achieve compliance. We’ve accepted Shanan Sidebottom’s personal undertaking as a demonstration of good faith but won’t hesitate to seek further Supreme Court enforcement if needed,” said Mr Henderson.
