Tungamah Tennis Club building to be replaced

Moira Shire Council this week voted to remove and replace the Tungamah Tennis Club building.
In recent years, the building has fallen into disrepair, with the footings of one section failing, posing a significant risk of collapse. The building is also regularly subject to flood.
Moira Shire CEO Mark Henderson said it was proposed to replace the building with a structure that more appropriately met the needs of the Tungamah community.
The building contains a public toilet and a club room associated with the adjacent tennis courts.
The public toilets do not meet current accessibility needs and need to be connected to the recently installed sewer system in the town.
Mr Henderson said Council had met with the community to determine their need and discuss future options for the site.
“The community has advised that a free standing steel awning with new toilets would be a much better solution and meet the needs of the community,” he said.
“The area is popular with RVers who regularly stop overnight in the town. A replacement structure would also meet their needs and provide a genuine asset for the town and community.”
