Moira Shire Council will host a public information session for residents considering standing for Council in the upcoming elections.
Moira Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Mark Henderson said standing for Council was a relatively simple process, but could be daunting if you were not certain what was required or how to nominate and campaign.
The information session will outline the roles and responsibilities of a Councillor, describe the election process, and provide useful advice for getting elected,” Mr Henderson said.
"I strongly encourage any residents contemplating standing for election to attend this information session.”
The information session for prospective candidates in the general elections for Moira Shire Council will be held on Monday 15 August at 1pm at the Numurkah Visitor Information Centre.
Guest speakers including CEO of the Greater Shepparton City Council Peter Harriott and the Municipal Association of Victoria will provide information about the council area, and advice on who can nominate, how to nominate, and what is required of a councillor.
A video presentation Q&A with Councillors from other municipalities will assist prospective candidates to gain an understanding of what the public will expect of you as a councillor, time commitments, challenges and rewards.
The free session will include an opportunity for open discussion and questions.
If you are unable to attend our session you are more than welcome to attend a session hosted by a neighbouring Council as the information will still be relevant,” Mr Henderson said.
Other sessions in neighbouring Councils include:

7pm, Benalla Performing Arts & Convention Centre, 57 Samaria Road, Benalla.
Wednesday 24 August
6pm, Indigo Shire Council Beechworth Office, 2 Kurrajong Way, Mayday Hills, Beechworth.
