Food Truck application under consideration

Publish Date: 06/10/2017

Council has recently received an application to operate a food truck event on private land in Yarrawonga.

General Manager Infrastructure Andrew Close said this was a private application from a Yarrawonga landowner plus stakeholders and was not Council initiated.

"All planning and general permit rules apply to this application," Mr Close said.

"Any submissions to the planning application will be processed in the usual manner.

"As per the planning application the applicants are looking to have four to five food trucks on site over the Christmas period and potentially on weekends going forward."

Mr Close said the application also detailed how the food trucks would be rotated and all efforts would be made not to compete with existing businesses.

"The same operators that ran last year’s Food Truck Festival are seeking to build on the popular event, however this time with a much smaller operation and a different delivery model," he said.

"A post-event survey, commissioned by Council but conducted independently, demonstrated the Food Truck Festival did stimulate visitation and expenditure in Yarrawonga.

"There was also a strong desire from visitors (96%), residents (89%) and businesses (60%) to make the festival an annual event."

Mr Close stressed this current application was not Council-initiated.

"This is a commercial application which must, by law, be assessed on its merits."

Submissions regarding the planning application close on October 16 and the application is available to view on Council’s website www.moira.vic.gov.au.
