Building Permit application forms and general information can be obtained at the Administration Centre in Cobram. Members of the Building Team are also available by appointment at the Yarrawonga Service Centre. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their building project with a member of Council's Building Team prior to submitting an application.
Permit fees increase in accordance with the type and value of the property being developed. For a detailed estimate of fees, please contact the Building Department.
Protection of Adjoining Property
Owners and builders are reminded that before or during carrying out building work (requiring a building permit to be issued) protection of an adjoining property/building (other than a vacant/undeveloped allotment) may need to be provided if required by the relevant building surveyor. For example, when a masonry wall is proposed to be constructed up to and along a common property boundary, suitable protection measures may need to be taken to prevent –
- undermining of an adjoining property/building when excavating deep footing trenches, or
- damage to driveways, garden beds and/or lawns caused by the erection/use of scaffolding on adjoining neighbouring property.
If you are contemplating construction of a new building and are in doubt or not familiar with procedures required to be followed in protecting adjoining property, please contact Council’s building unit for further advice.
