Councillor Code of Conduct

Under the Local Government Act 1989, Councils must adopt a Councillor Code of Conduct and revise the Code after each Council Election.

The roles, responsibilities and conduct expected of elected Councillors including the Mayor is detailed in the Local Government Act. The Code of Conduct provides further guidance to Councillors, the community and Council staff.

A Councillor Code of Conduct must not be inconsistent with any Act or Regulation. A Councillor Code of Conduct is inoperative to the extent that it is inconsistent with any Act or Regulation.

The Councillor Code of Conduct, which incorporates the statutory requirements specified under section 76C of the Local Government Act 1989, was adopted by resolution of the Moira Shire Council on 20 June 2016.
