Environment Project of the Year

The Koonoomoo Improvement Group Inc has restored and continues to care for a piece of land on behalf of the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) adjacent to the Koonoomoo Recreation Reserve.

Sixteen years ago the group took on the 10-hectare paddock of weeds and rubbish.

The site has been revegetated with native vegetation, with most of the initial care and watering voluntary.

Volunteers continue maintenance of the site with mowing and spraying.

The restored dam provides a wetland for wildlife.

The vision and hard work of local volunteers has seen an amazing transformation of a previously derelict site.
