Maternal and Child Health

To make a Maternal and Child Health appointment, please telephone the central booking number on (03) 5871 9275. Interpreter services are available.

For out of hours assistance, the Victorian Maternal and Child Health Line is a 24-hour service staffed by Maternal and Child Health Nurses. Please telephone 13 22 29.

The Maternal and Child Health Service offers families information, guidance support on the following topics:

  • breastfeeding and lactation;
  • child health, growth and development;
  • maternal and family health;
  • parent and child relationships;
  • safety and injury prevention;
  • immunisation;
  • family planning;
  • nutrition;
  • referral to specialist children's and family services;
  • post natal depression; and
  • sleeping and settling issues.

All nurses are suitably qualified and experienced in both midwifery and maternal and child health are open to discuss any concerns that you or your family may have.

Maternal and Child Health Standards Criteria

Enhanced Maternal and Child Health

The Enhanced Home Visiting Service provides additional support to parents and caregivers of children up to six years of age.
Referrals can be made by:

  • self;
  • health professionals and workers; and
  • friends and family.

Topics for the enhanced home visiting service are tailored to suited each individual and are conducted within the individual's home.

Outreach – Alternate Visits

For those families that may find it difficult to attend one of our seven centres, a Maternal and Child Health Nurse can be arranged to come and visit you. Please contact our central booking system on (03) 5871 9275.

Health and Developmental Assessments

It is recommended that you schedule an appointment for a growth and development screening at the following ages:

During these assessments, babies and children’s growth details are recorded and their individual development assessed. All parents/caregivers are given an information pack at each appointment.

Maternal and Child Health Survey

Moira Shire is committed to providing a first-rate Maternal and Child Health service and seeks community feedback in an attempt to fulfil this obligation. The main objectives of the survey are to assess the performance of our service and to seek insight into ways to provide improved or more effective service delivery. Participation in the survey is voluntary and survey findings will be kept confidential.
