Community Building
The Moira Shire Community Building team has a strong focus on engaging all its communities with positive and productive interaction.
Community Building aims at continuously working with local committees, representatives, community groups and individuals, achieving long term partnerships and encourages networking opportunities between towns and Moira Shire staff.
Priority Planning
Providing guidance throughout the planning process; idea generation, project prioritisation and the formation of sub-committees to drive initiatives.
Assistance in gaining resources and funding through grant applications, to enable project planning to continue.
Community Projects
Assisting community groups to understand and navigate council systems, policies and procedures to obtain support for their projects.
Working with enthusiastic individuals to seize opportunities and develop their ideas into realities. Empowering individuals and communities through direction and guidance.
Volunteer Resourcing
Supporting our volunteers on a needs basis in all elements of community project work, from event planning or a streetscape, through to new playgrounds and splash parks, our team can provide the support.
Partnerships
Creating long term partnerships with various stake holders to maximise community capacity, project implementation and communication across the shire. One of these partnerships is that between the media servicing the Moira Shire region and Council.
In 2011, ABC Open began, offering Moira Shire Council residents an opportunity to showcase what is important to them about their local community and community members. At the start of 2012, ABC Open launched its first competition, with some great prizes.
In 2011, ABC Open had an amazing year in the Goulburn Valley, working with people to tell stories about the local refugee population, the importance of water in the community, what Anzac Day meant to the young and the old, what the dreams of the local indigenous were, who strangers were, what we were doing at 11:11, 11.11.11, and the amazing stories of resilience and recovery from natural disasters.
In 2012, it is time for Moira Shire residents to tell their story. There are plenty of ways to get involved. During January and February ABC Open will run a travelling Summer School where producer Benj Binks will teach photography, using your smartphone, editing and other skills. He is also close to launching ABC Open's first video project entitled 110%. The one-minute videos will capture people who are 110 percent into their sport and Benj will run lots of workshops around the region from February.
ABC Open's first competition for 2012 invites people to submit their best Close Up photograph for the chance to win one of three places on a photographic adventure with a professional photographer. Check out this link for more details.
