Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2017-2021 is Council’s commitment to providing a more accessible and inclusive community for all our residents and visitors.

The plan was develop by asking our residents and staff to complete a survey to tell us how they would like to improve access and inclusion and what should be prioritised.

The plan includes actions to improve accessible car parking at key community service sites, improving pedestrian and cycling infrastructure to support use by people with impaired mobility, upgrading public toilets to be wheelchair accessible and active promotion of inclusiveness and participation of people with a disability,  in activities, events and festivals held in Moira Shire.

Disability Advisory Committee - Calling Expressions of Interest

Council is seeking external representatives to become community members and organisation representatives of the Disability Advisory Committee for a four year period (2018-2022).

The Disability Advisory Committee aims to ensure open consultation and participation for people with disabilities, their families, carers, advocates and service providers to enable meaningful input into Moira Shire Council’s service planning and policy development.

The Disability Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly. The meetings are rotated through the four major towns of the shire, Cobram, Nathalia, Numurkah and Yarrawonga.

Committee members will demonstrate an interest in the development in the inclusion, participation and access for people with disabilities and willingness to contribute and be capable of informing and motivating others. Appointments are in a voluntary capacity only.

The Disability Advisory Committee aims to ensure open consultation and participation for people with disabilities, their families, carers, advocates and service providers to enable meaningful input into Moira Shire Council’s service planning and policy development.

The main aims of the Disability Advisory Committee are: 

  • To encourage people with a disability to be a member of the Committee.
  • Work with the community towards acknowledging and valuing people with disabilities. 
  • Inform and educate the council and the community about issues for people with disabilities, their families, careers and others.
  • Identify and prioritise access issues in the shire and contribute to the planning to address these issues, as per the All Abilities Action Plan/ Moira Shire Municipal Public Health Plan
  • Inform, educate and advocate to the Federal, State and Local Governments on rural disability issues.

The Committee consists of professionals that work within the disability/accessibility sector, Moira Shire Councillor’s and Office Bearer and members of the public.
